Degrees

All Northern California College of Commissioner Sciemce degrees require that you be registered as a Commissioner and that your application meet the approval of your Council (Associate) Dean or Council Commissioner. Degree Application (PDF)

Degree Requirements

Associate of Commissioner Science (ACS)

Prerequisites

  1. Maintain registration as Commissioner during entire training program
  2. Complete Commissioner Orientation and Fast Start
  3. Successfully complete BSA’s Youth Protection Training within past 24 months.
  4. Complete Commissioner Basic Training

Requirements

  1. Complete two courses from the BCS group
  2. Pledge of two unit visits in the next month
  3. Approval of Council (Associate) Dean or Council Commissioner

Bachelor of Commissioner Science (BCS)

Prerequisites

  1. Maintain registration as Commissioner during entire training program
  2. Complete Commissioner Orientation and Fast Start
  3. Successfully complete BSA’s Youth Protection Training within past 24 months.
  4. Complete Commissioner Basic Training

Requirements

  1. Complete seven courses at least five from the BCS group
    • Commissioner’s Arrowhead may be substituted for one course
    • Earning the “Trained” strip in a Scouting program may be substituted for one course
  2. Approval of Council (Associate) Dean or Council Commissioner

Master of Commissioner Science (MCS)

Prerequisites

  1. Completion of Bachelor’s (BCS) degree or award of “Commissioner’s Key”
  2. Earned Arrowhead Honor
  3. Maintain registration as Commissioner during entire training program
  4. Successfully complete BSA’s Youth Protection Training within past 24 months.

Requirements

  1. Complete seven additional courses (for a total 14), at least seven courses must be from MCS group
    • BCS holders may substitute Commissioner’s Key for one course
    • Earning the “Trained” strip in two Scouting programs may be substituted for one course
  2. Approval of Council (Associate) Dean or Council Commissioner

Doctor of Commissioner Science (DCS)

Prerequisites

  1. Completion of Master’s (MCS) degree
  2. Earn the Commissioner’s Key
  3. Maintain registration as Commissioner during entire training program
  4. Successfully complete BSA’s Youth Protection Training within past 24 months.

Requirements

  1. Complete ten additional courses not used to qualify for other degrees(for a total 24), at least five courses must be from the DCS group
    • Each course taught on the college teaching staff may be substituted for one course
    • Each year spent on college staff (other than teaching) may be substituted for one course
  2. Complete an Approved Research Project or Thesis
    • Earning the award of “Distinguished Commissioner” may be substituted for the Project or Thesis
  3. Serve on the Commissioner’s College staff for at least one year
  4. Recruit and coach at least one new Commissioner
  5. Approval of Council (Associate) Dean or Council Commissioner
